You can obtain your current vehicle’s insurance card in two ways
Option 1: Take a Photo of the Paper Insurance Card Inside Your Vehicle
As required by state laws, you must keep your vehicle’s insurance card in the car to present it to authorities as proof that you have purchased the legally required liability insurance.
You can take a photo of the paper insurance card stored in your vehicle. The photo should clearly capture the following details, avoiding unnecessary information and ensuring readability:
- VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of all insured vehicles listed
- Information of all insured individuals
- Insurance start and end dates
- Insurance company logo or other identification
- Policy number
Use a paper insurance card from Nationwide Insurance as a reference for what needs to be captured.
Option 2: Take a Screenshot of the Electronic Insurance Card from Your Insurer's App
Most of the top-ranked insurance companies in the U.S. offer an electronic insurance card feature in their apps. You can easily find it in the app of your insurer.
Although the design of electronic insurance cards may vary by company, they typically contain the following information:
- VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of all insured vehicles listed
- Information of all insured individuals
- Insurance start and end dates
- Insurance company logo or other identification
- Policy number
You can upload a screenshot of the electronic insurance card to the Good Driver Mutuality App.
